Same-Sex Marriage

Last week, I said that there were lots of perspectives to look into marriage, without knowing that I will write about marriage again. The perspective I will focus on in this entry will be gay-lesbian marriages.

One side of the debate argues that gay marriage should be legal, other side says it shouldn't. As a not-fully-open-mind person I will discuss the issue not in "why it should" point of view but why it shouldn't view. Firstly lets list the bad things which could happen if gay marriage become legal, then I will try to answer them as much as I can.
Possible problems:
1. The traditional marriage structure will be down.
2. It is against the nature!
3. Homosexuality going to spread around the world! (this one is some kind of apocalyptic catastrophe (!))
4. Procreation number will decrease.
That's enough I guess.
My answers:
1. The tradition marriage consists of mother, father, and children. There are a lot of families without children. they don't feel like they destroy the traditional concept. Also what happens if the "traditional" side of marriage disappear? Is traditional always good? I don't know...
2. We have discussed this in class: There are gay penguins.
3. Why would I be lesbian if there are lesbian people around me? Is it some kind of contagious disease?
Funny, isn't it?
4. This one is related to the 3rd one. So, I skip.
Extra. There is one also which is not an anti-gay marriage argument (my friend suggested that): The homosexuals would be killed. I think this one is pretty realistic, at least in our society.

Let me summarize the main idea: Gay-marriage doesn't effect heterosexuals. If they really want to get marriage (knowing all the dangers), why not?

Marriage

I don't know when people started to legitimate their relationship in name of marriage but today, except some primitive tribes (or in general: people groups) in undeveloped parts of the world, it is an acknowledged foundation. It is so common that high percentage of people see being old and single as inappropriate. I am not going to discuss if it is really necessary or if it's lack is inappropriate.
What I will discuss is why people wants to stick to one person till their death. It looks like very bad idea if we look at that side. However it is not the only issue. The major steps of human life, as the biggest cliche says: humans are born, grow up, reproduce, and die. As the second biggest cliche says: biologically, animals need to reproduce. And psychologically a child needs to a family to grow up in healthy environment.
So, the whole process was for the child? Of course not. As being legitimate relationship, marriage like a contract between sides. That's why it serves as assurance between individuals.
There are lots of perspective to look into marriage such as religion element in marriage, having children in old ages, marriage between same sexes or under-limits of age of marriage. Maybe next time.
